Many people have always suggested using AVI instead of RMVB on the site. One of the arguments for doing so is the fact that RMVB files don't work with programs except for Real Player. However, this problem can easily be solved in three easy steps.
Download Real Alternative
Real Alternative is something called a codec which allows videos in RealPlayer format to be rendered by other programs. However, the full version contains an extra program that we don't need so you should download Real Alternative Lite instead. Click the link in the last sentence to download the installer.
Install Real Alternative
The installation process is relatively straightforward. It may suggest that you uninstall Real Player during the installation, but this isn't really necessary if you don't want to do so (I didn't).
Rename the file
At this point your programs should be able to use RMVB videos. However, some programs such as Windows Movie Maker will refuse to open the file because of the .rmvb extension. To fix this, simply right click the file and go to rename. Then replace the .rmvb in the filename with .avi. Your program should now be able to use the RMVB file you download from RealityLapse
